Valeria Scialò is the TEDxNapoli organizer, together with Francesca Nicolais, Giusi Ciaccio, Rossella Ciardiello, Vittoria Salabelle, and Maria Cecilia Bruzzone. Francesca Nicolais (TEDxNapoli co-Organizer) and Maria Cecilia Bruzzone (TEDxNapoli Community Manager), share their experience and results of using Mentimeter for their survey design and management throughout the 2024 TEDxNapoli event.
Aside from creating presentations and surveys to drive engagement and gain useful insights, the organizers and speakers also need to effectively manage participant feedback. Without an easy-to-use tool, this can quickly become time-consuming. This is why Maria and Francesca decided to try Mentimeter and see how well it suits their needs.
Maria and Francesca used Mentimeter to create a survey to engage with the participants.

Visually stunning Mentimeter surveys not only enhanced participant engagement, but also provided invaluable insights.
But that's just the design aspect, let's consider the implementation.
More than 100 people among TEDxNapoli attendees actively engaged through Mentimeter before and during the event. The organizers had emailed a survey to participants before the event, to engage them during the break. The questions were aimed to understand their preferences and streamline interactions during the event, and the responses were lively.
The break between the first and second keynotes was the most noteworthy moment of the event. During this break, the participants had to find like-minded people and network with them.
To make things smooth and efficient, the organizers had used insights from the pre-event survey to assign colors to the pins participants would wear. So during the break, all the participants had to do was find someone with a matching colored pin. They then completed the instructions from the organizers and made new connections.
This way, the organizers used information from the pre-event survey to bring people together and interact in-person.
While the participants had responded warmly to the pre-event survey, Maria and Francesca noticed a more subdued response to the open ended Mentimeter questions displayed on the screen during the event. Francesca shares that "this was probably because the program touched on sensitive issues". Nonetheless, the organizers quickly changed their approach.
"To encourage greater engagement and gather diverse viewpoints, we sent an additional Mentimeter survey via email after the event, inviting anonymous suggestions regarding future event topics. To our delight, this led to many responses, with a multitude of valuable suggestions pouring in from the audience." - Francesca Nicolais, Co-Organizer of TEDxNapoli 2024
The TEDxNapoli 2024 experience shows the positive impact of using engaging and user-friendly tools in organizing and hosting interactive events. After the success of TEDxNapoli 2024, Maria and Francesca hope to scale up the use of Mentimeter in their future events.
"This year, we had the idea to involve Mentimeter very late, and we had the opportunity to have the speakers in Naples just for one day. We aim to do more for the next editions and perhaps encourage the speakers to use Mentimeter during their keynotes to get to know the participants, break the ice, and involve them more." - Maria Cecilia Bruzzone, Community Manager of TEDxNapoli 2024
