What’s the best way to prioritize tasks? Solving the most important tasks first is more efficient, but how do you arrive at which aspects are the most important?

What is prioritization? In its simplest form as a principle prioritization means “doing the first thing first”. More to the point however is what it means as a process, in this case prioritization is “the evaluating of items and ranking their urgency or importance against each other”. We use prioritization every single day, whether it is choosing between different personal options: Go to the gym, go to the supermarket, or meet a friend for coffee, or a work decision: Should I call the client, visit them, or email them? In these and many other scenarios we are weighing up all the different elements such as time, effort, money, enjoyment, etc… and deciding which is the most important or urgent based on these.

The 100 points question in Mentimeter is based on the 100 dollar method, in which each participant is allocated 100 points to prioritize different items. Most people find it easier to appraise the different items or ideas by “spending” figurative money on what is more urgent or important to them. It’s a simple, lighthearted method, that as we all use money on a daily basis is simple to understand for participants from any walk of life.
